Register to vote
February 17, 2016 is the last day to register to vote for the March 15, 2016 General Primary Election. If you miss this deadline you have two more opportunities to register or update your existing voter information in Illinois County:
- Grace period registration and voting before Election Day
- Grace period registration and voting on Election Day
Who is eligible to register
You may register to vote if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are a United States citizen.
- You are a resident of Illinois County for 30 days.
- You are at least 18 years of age (or will be 18 by November 8, 2016).
- You are not in prison or jail serving time for a conviction.
- You do not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

1. Obtain your form
You may download the form, obtain a voter registration form by contacting our office, or find voter registration applications at the following locations:
- The elections office in the Courthouse
- Your local DMV office
- Your local post office
- Your public library
- Deputy registrars (trained volunteers in the community)
- Find the National Mail Voter Registration form on the Election Assistance Commission website.
2. Complete and sign your voter registration form.

Update your voter registration
You need to update your voter registration when you:
- Move
- Change your name
The process to update your voter registration is the same as the process to register to vote. Update your voter registration online or complete a paper voter registration form and mail it to our office.
Deadline to register
The deadline to register for the March 15, 2016 General Primary Election is February 16, 2016. However, if you miss the February 16 deadline you may register or update your registration and vote during the grace period.
Military and overseas voters
